ℹ️ ABOUT US

About Gringos UP

Protecting travelers and expats through community-powered safety intelligence and AI facial recognition technology.

Our Mission

Gringos UP was created to address a growing and dangerous threat facing travelers and expats in Colombia and across Latin America: Scopolamine drugging incidents. Also known as "Devil's Breath," Scopolamine is a powerful drug that renders victims helpless, often leading to robbery, assault, and worse.

With an estimated ~50,000 Scopolamine incidents occurring annually in Colombia alone, the threat is real and growing. Many of these incidents involve organized criminals who use dating apps and social situations to target unsuspecting victims.

Our platform leverages Facial Recognition technology to create a searchable database of known Scopolamine Queens, individuals who have been confirmed to participate in these crimes. By allowing users to upload and check photos before meeting someone, we aim to prevent incidents before they happen.

🤝 Partnership with Obi Land

Gringos UP is proudly developed in partnership with the Obi Land Team, a community dedicated to fighting Scopolamine Queens in Colombia.

Through this partnership, we combine on-the-ground knowledge, community reports, and cutting-edge technology to create a comprehensive safety network. The Obi Land team provides valuable insights, verification support, and helps spread awareness about this critical safety tool.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Is this service free?

Yes, Gringos UP is completely free to use. Our mission is safety, not profit. We believe everyone deserves access to tools that can protect them from harm.

How accurate is the facial recognition?

We use AWS Rekognition, one of the most advanced facial recognition systems available. Our system requires an 80% or higher confidence match to report a result. While highly accurate, no system is perfect—always use multiple safety precautions.

How do people get added to the registry?

Entries are added through our "Report a Known Scopolamine Queen" feature. Users can submit photos along with details like name, location, and incident information. All submissions are stored with metadata for verification purposes.

What if someone is falsely reported?

We take false reports seriously. All submissions include timestamp metadata and reporting details. The system is designed as a community safety tool, and users should report only verified, known threats based on real incidents.

Can I report someone anonymously?

Yes, our reporting system does not collect personal information from the reporter. You only need to provide information about the person you're reporting (name, location, aliases, incident details).

What data do you store?

We store uploaded photos in secure AWS S3 storage, along with associated metadata (names, locations, aliases, incident details). Photos uploaded for safety checks are stored separately from the verified registry. We do not store any personal information about users performing checks.

Does this only work in Colombia?

While Scopolamine incidents are most prevalent in Colombia, they occur throughout Latin America and beyond. Our database is international, and we encourage reports from any location where these incidents occur.

What should I do if I find a match?

Do not proceed with the meeting. Block the person immediately on all platforms. If you're already in contact, cease communication. Report the profile to the dating app or platform where you met them. Share this tool with friends to protect others.

What is Scopolamine?

Scopolamine (also called "Devil's Breath") is a powerful drug derived from the Borrachero tree. It can be administered via powder, liquid, or even absorbed through skin contact. It renders victims compliant and unable to resist, often causing memory loss. Effects can last hours or even days.

How can I contribute to the database?

If you have verifiable information about a known Scopolamine Queen, use our "Report a Known Scopolamine Queen" feature. Provide as much detail as possible including photo, name/aliases, city, country, and incident information.

Is my privacy protected when I use this site?

Yes. We do not track users performing safety checks. Photos you upload for checking are stored with only the name/alias you provide—no connection to you personally. Your safety and privacy are our top priorities.

Can I use this to check multiple photos of the same person?

Absolutely. In fact, we recommend checking multiple photos if available. Our AI can match faces across different angles, lighting conditions, and even with minor changes in appearance.
